Desperate Housewives (Episode 20: Fear no More)

Brief background: Annabel was Tom's old girlfriend. They dated right before Tom met Lynette. But at that time, Tom didn't see himself as the marrying type. Soon after, he met Lynette which in turn made him leave Annabel. It was then that he realized he was indeed the marrying type.

One day, Lynette dropped by Tom's office, and to her surprise Annabel was there. She was shocked that they were working together. Apparently, she's been working there for 3 months already and Tom didn't even tell her. That night, as he walked in the house, he called out for Lynette's name. Then out of no where ...

Lynette: Three months?
Husband: God ... You scared the hell out of me.
Lynette: Were you ever gonna tell me?
Tom: I wanted to, but I kept putting it off. I knew how you'd react.
Lynette: Congratulations, you read me like a book. Why would you hire that woman?
Tom: Look, technically, Peterson found her. I just vouched for her.
Lynette: Tom ...
Tom: C'mon, Honey, I'm just helping her out. It's the least I can do. Look she was devastated when I left her for you. I felt bad.
Lynette: Do you still have feelings for her?
Tom: Alright, I'm not talking to you.
Lynette: C'mon, you can tell me. You still care about her, don't you? Just a teeny tiny little bit?
Tom: I was just trying to be a good guy. That's all.
Lynette: Well you can't work with her.
Tom: What do you want me to do? Quit?
Lynette: Talk to Peterson maybe you can get her transferred. I mean, weren't you guys starting something up in Belize?
Tom: Honey you're crazy.
Lynette: No, I'm serious. If she stays, I will haunt your office. I bring you lunch every day. I will bring the kids to visit. I will change diapers on your desk. Every birthday cake in the break room, every retirement party, I will be there, watching her.
Tom: Well I'd better get you a parking space coz she's staying.

Lynette was then adviced to "keep your friends close, but keep your enemies closer". This inspired her to cook dinner and invite Annabel over. She was determined to let Annabel know that they were a happy family and that she shouldn't break them up. Unfortunately, her plan got too obvious. After dinner, their boss called so Annabel took the call in the other room. Here's how Tom and Lynette's conversation went.

Tom: So, that was quite a show you put on tonight.
Lynette: Show?
Tom: The boys' paintings, all these references to how happy we are?
Lynette: What's wrong with subtly reminding Annabel that you're happily married?
Tom: Because it wasn't subtle. And it's an insult to me.
Lynette: I did not mean it that way.
Tom: Are you so insecure that you have to pull that crap?
Lynette: Keep your voice down.
Tom: It doesn't matter is she has feelings for me as long as I'm not interested. Have I ever, ever given you any reason to doubt me?
Lynette: Anyone is capable of anything. The first time we met, you were cheating.
Tom: With you! Cheating with you!
Lynette: It's a pattern of behavior.
Tom: Aww, give me a break.
Lynette: Well, what am I suppose to do? You hire your old girlfriend and you don't tell me about it for three months?
Tom: I could have told you on day one and you'd still be jumping on my throat. Annabel is ancient history
Lynette: She's in the next room.
Tom: How long do we have to be married Lynette? how long until you actually trust me?
Lynette: I trust you
Tom: How many times have you said to me, "If you ever touch another woman, I will take the boys and we will walk out of here and you will never see us again.
Lynette: That's just ... something wives say to their husbands.
Tom: Not all wives. God Lynette, you're just so convinced that I'm gonna be unfaithful. It makes me sick, the distrust, the paranoia. You know. No. It seems you're not gonna be happy until you drive me out of this marriage just to prove yourself right.
Tom: Ok wait, forget I said that
Lynette: It's too late, you said it.
Tom: Then just consider it something husband says to their wives.

Annabel: Don't worry Lynette, I'lll deliver him back to you as soon as I can
Lynette: Please do.

"Spring comes every year but not everyone remembers to stop & smell the flowers. Some are too busy worrying about the future, Or mistakes they've made in the past. Others are preoccupied with not getting caught, Or thinking of ways to catch someone else. Still there will always be a few who remember to take a moment and appreciate what spring has given them. Just as there will always be those who prefer to sit in the dark in the dark brooding over everything they've lost."

In a way, it's just weird how things turn out. Trust is such a touchy issue. Oh yes indeed, it's a sensitive issue. It's kinda scary that not even the length of the relationship can hold someone back from being with another. I have a lot of friends na 3+ years na with the boyfriend, but they still split up in the end. Haay. Katakot. Pray na lang tayo lagi. hehe.
